Primark to Introduce Self-Checkouts
Primark, located in Fishergate Shopping Centre, is set to undergo a significant upgrade to enhance the shopping experience for customers. Starting on 15th September 2024, the store will begin installing self-checkout machines, reducing wait times by a substantial 70%.
The installation process is expected to take approximately eight days to complete. Once operational, the self-checkout machines will accept card payments only. To accommodate customers who prefer to pay with cash, a number of traditional tills will remain on the ground floor. Returns can continue to be made at any staffed till downstairs.
The introduction of self-checkout machines is part of Primark’s commitment to improving efficiency and providing a more convenient shopping experience. The staff who currently operate the tills will transition to other roles within the store, allowing them to gain new skills and potentially experience greater job satisfaction.
Primark is also actively recruiting for new positions to build on its workforce during the upcoming Autumn/Winter busy season. These additional hires will help ensure that the store can meet the increased demand and continue to offer excellent customer service.
